Session Description
This session will try to bring researchers working in geotechnical, unsaturated soil mechanics, geo-environmental researchers in one platform to discuss multidisciplinary issues and approaches to raise awareness, mitigate and control geohazards using geological engineering principles for the benefit of the society, comminity and humanity to attain sustainability. Findings from the presented papers will certainly enhance the importance of unsaturated soil mechanics, geological engineering for societal and sustainable development under the current context of global climate change.
Aim of the Session
This session aims at bringing together and exchange experiences on different aspects of unsaturated soil mechanics, impacts and consequences of unsaturated soil mechanics in geohazard research, the impacts of climates on hazards and disasters and how unsaturated soil mechanics can help to mitigate hazards mainly in the tropical regions, problems identification and analysis, awareness buildup for the communities, method identification to give geoengineering solution to mitigate hazards and how engineering geology can help for community development, to attain sustainability and to improve livelihood of the commmunity people. Contributions on the concepts, methods and tools used to quantitatively evaluate soil properties, risk, and loss due to soil hazards and their secondary effects, as well as measures for their reduction are welcomed. Contributions on numerical and emperical approaches for the modelling works and their impacts on society, humanity, livelihood, communities and sustainabilities are of particular interest. Approaches might include geological engineering fundamental principles, climate and climate related hazard approaches for the societal benefits and papers are also welcomed on the integration of climate, unsaturated soil mechanics, geomaterials & geoenvironmenta works for the societal benefit.
