Prof. Dr. ATM Shakhawat Hossain, President, IAEG Bangladesh National Group
Dr. A.T.M. Shakhawat Hossain is a Professor in the Dept. of Geological Sciences, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and Head of the Geological Engineering, Geohazards & Disaster Sciences Research Group. He holds degrees from the University of Dhaka, University of Leeds, and a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Durham, U.K., where he also completed postdoctoral research on landslide hazards.
With over 32 years of experience in teaching, research, and consultancy in engineering geology, geotechnics, and geohazards, Dr. Hossain has trained many professionals now working in national and international organizations. He has published over 60 research articles and book chapters and chaired numerous technical sessions in Asia and the Pacific.
He has collaborated with global experts from the U.K., Japan, China, Russia, Germany, and the U.S. on major geological and geotechnical projects, including World Bank-funded initiatives. A former Chairperson of his department, he established research ties with Japan and China. Currently, he serves as President of IAEG_Bangladesh National Group and is the Principal Investigator of an ANSO, China-funded research project.
