Session Description
Landslides are permanent and significant factors in landscape evolution. They are also complex and challenging to predict geohazards, of which potential intensification has been claimed for several world regions. For this reason, they require the application of various methods that aid full recognition of their adverse and long-lasting outcomes.
Aim of the Session
Landsliding is a hot topic in Earth sciences. This process brings many adverse outcomes under changing climate conditions, intensifying seismic activity, and human impact. This session aims to define cutting-edge ideas and new trends, informing the scientific community about novel methodological approaches and significant discoveries on landslide recognition, reconstruction, mapping, modeling, and prediction. Session participants will present their experiences gained in various world regions while working in different environmental conditions. In addition, the synergy between participants with various professional backgrounds would create ideal conditions for cross-disciplinary discussions and idea exchange. Landslides require constant attention, monitoring, and consideration of long-term landscape evolution analyses under various conditions, mainly because they pose a significant threat to humans and infrastructure. Several questions related to this problem can be answered through landslide reconstruction and geological and geomorphological analyses based on different datasets and their mapping and modeling. For this reason, the session aims at bringing together scientists and practitioners working on landslides from the viewpoint of different spatiotemporal scales. In-depth evaluation of factors contributing to landslide formation is the key to successfully explaining landscape evolution and geohazard mitigation due to landsliding.
